【Changhua】Host Family by Retired Chinese Teacher

【CITY】 Changhua, TAIWAN

【RENT】 NT$ 2,000/MON UP

Great opportunity to learn Chinese  language and immerse into local lifestyle in Changhua.  Teacher Lee likes traveling and making friends so she plans to open her house for international friends. Besides being a host family, she holds some dinner gatherings home.

I open my house to new friends whoever need a place in Changhua.

I am a retired teacher living in Changhua city. I like to read Bible, travel, go hiking and cook. Most of my retired life focus on serving the elders in the churches or hospitals. My life is pretty regular, going hiking in the morning and volunteering in the afternoon. In the evenings, I like to ask some friends over to have dinner or gathering.

I am protestant and live quite simple and green so I'd love to find a like-minded tenant. Better if you like to immerse into the humanities and cultures in Taiwan.

A very good host family in Tainan, just steps to the riverside of Tainan Canal. Really good living environment. Enjoy the relaxed lifestyle in the old capital - Tainan.

Hi, I am Jun-Ming, the host dad of this host family. Very excited to open our house to international friends. I like to play badminton, wood-working, and travel around the world,

Our family have two kids, one is 3 and the other is 1y3m. I am a lecturer in STUST (Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology). My wife works in a consultant firm in Taipei. Therefore, she comes back home usually on Friday night and goes back to Taipei in the early morning on Monday.

In the daytime my elder boy goes to kindergarten and the younger one is taken cared of by the grandmother who lives nearby with my elder brother. On weekend, we like to go shopping and sometimes visit my grandpa in the countryside.

Our family life is simple and keeps regular hours. We welcome your coming and wish you a pleasant time staying here.

Hi, My name is Lily. While I am a native English (US) speaker, I still have family both from Taiwan and Thailand. Because of this, I am quite fluent in speaking Chinese and, to an even greater extent, in Thai. In addition to this, having done consultant work as well as tutoring for several years now, I am definitely capable of being able to overcome multiple cross-cultural issues and help express what a person is trying to communicate. I now hope to help you find some good accommodations during your stay here in Taiwan. Welcome!

Hola. Soy Cristian. ¡Bienvenido a Taiwán!
Hello, my name is Cris. I am a native Chinese and Taiwanese speaker. I grew up in Tainan, a city in southern Taiwan, and moved to Argentina with my family when I was 14. I lived 10 years in Argentina, before moving back to Taiwan and working in private sector and schools for more than 19 years. This experience helped me to understand both Taiwanese culture and Western one. So I can be a good help to you when it comes to solving problems from finding an accommodation to preventing the culture shock. I am also able to walk you through the most common problems you find living in Taiwan. Hope to see you soon in Taiwan!

Finding Host families in Taiwan

Hosting an outsider is a totally new concept in Taiwan, not to mention foreigner. See how this housing platform begun.

Hosting guests from different backgrounds has been for long a part of life for Europeans. On the other hand, living into a host family is also a common thing in many European countries. However, to open the door of local Taiwanese families really takes lots of efforts and time.

Recruiting host families started from a workshop

The benefits of cross-cultural living style were deployed to initiate the first step to our goal. Yes, we held a workshop with many local families to talk about the advantages for their kids if they have a foreign guest home. And it worked well.

Visiting potential host families

Although the doors of many families had been opened, it is also very important to scrutinize those families by visiting them in person. Through the process, we did collect many quality families with good accommodation and welcoming heart.

Matching the suitable families for expats

Most of the local families don’t speak English very fluently. We help translating the online meeting between the families and foreigners. In the meeting, we go through the house rules and the contract to make sure both parties satisfied with the matching. It’s always very encouraging to make a good match.

All lead to this cross-cultural housing platform

After running this homestay program for 2 years, we feel very proudly to contribute all our experiences and know-hows on building up an online platform for expats housing in Taiwan.

Not only family accommodation, you can either find a regular studio in Taiwan or even use our innovative function – STAY WISH. In the Tenants’ Wishing Well, you can state your accommodation needs to the landlords or team up with nearby housing seekers by posting a STAY WISH. Later a full article over this topic will be posted.

All in all, we are confidant iMMERSTAY.com can help expats with all kinds of housing requirements. It’s perfectly designed to fulfill the goal of cross-cultural housing in Taiwan. Good luck and have fun in Taiwan.
